This article examines the complex relationship between the Ukraine crisis and the Gaza-Israel conflict, analyzing their combined impact on the regional order in the Middle East. The central argument is that these two crises are not isolated events but rather interconnected arenas within an international system in transition—linked by a "structural nexus" and a "strategic vacuum" resulting from the disengagement of major powers. Drawing upon the framework of defensive realism, the article first defines the concept of "regional order" and subsequently introduces the emergent notion of a "besieged regional order"—a state in which a regional order, regardless of the intentions of its own actors, finds itself encircled by the rivalries of extra-regional powers, with all avenues for escape effectively blocked. The findings indicate that the war in Ukraine—through the disruption of energy politics and food security—and the Gaza crisis—through the geographical expansion of tensions to the "Axis of Resistance" network—have paved the way for the Middle East’s transition toward a "besieged" order. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that the convergence of crises across different geographical theaters has led to the erosion of the independent agency of regional actors. The study suggests that this transition from independent orders to besieged ones will entail irreversible consequences for the security and economic stability of the Middle East.
