English

Iran places significant emphasis on protecting its national interests and security in the West Asia region, where numerous actors have resorted to arms race as a result of geopolitical rivalries, conflicts of interest, and the necessity of establishing a balance of power. The long-term arms race in this area, stretching several decades, has not only exacerbated the precarious security situation in West Asia but also led to inquiries into Iran's possible options for attaining regional balance of Power. The mentioned inquiry has emerged as the primary concern of this study, compelling the authors to pursue answers. To address this question, this article employs a mixed-methods (quantitative-descriptive) research design to assess the current state of arms race in West Asia, the factors that influence it, and the consequences that result from such competition. The research findings suggest that states in West Asia allocate a significant amount of their economic resources towards military expenditures that exceed the global average. In pursuit of achieving a balance of power, these nations rely heavily on their economic capabilities. As a consequence of the constraints it faces, the Islamic Republic of Iran is compelled to implement more dependency on its domestic resources in order to achieve the deterrence it seeks
