Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that plays a key role in global warming. The West Asia and North Africa region is severely affected by climate change, including decreased precipitation, desertification, pressure on water resources and agriculture, and threats to energy security. This research addresses the question: "How can the reduction of methane emissions from the energy sector be leveraged to simultaneously achieve climate, energy security, and diplomatic objectives in this region?" The research hypothesis is based on the spatial variation of methane emissions from the oil and gas (O&G) systems across countries in the region and its dependence on technical, managerial, and policy factors, necessitating continuous monitoring. Using a mixed-method approach involving the analysis of satellite data from the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), calculation of emission intensity, and review of influencing factors, the findings reveal that energy loss due to methane emissions reaches up to %65.6 of total energy production from O&G industry in some countries. Technology level, monitoring, equipment quality, and environmental policies are key factors contributing to this variation. Reducing methane emissions represents a golden opportunity for controlling global warming due to its cost-effectiveness and technical feasibility. This article proposes the establishment of regional monitoring centers utilizing satellite data and collaboration with active companies, which can lead to gradual emission reduction, enhanced energy security, and the development of constructive diplomacy in the region.
