English

October 7, 2023, should be considered the beginning of a new era in the Middle East, ushering in dramatic consequences and changes. This study examines the possibility of realizing the IMEC in light of the new Middle East order. For this purpose, it raises the fundamental question of what opportunities and challenges the new Middle East order has presented to the realization of the IMEC? The research hypothesis is that the new Middle East order has confronted the realization of IMEC with a dual situation: geopolitical challenges such as the Gaza war, the halt in Saudi-Israeli normalization, the escalation of Iran-Israeli tensions, and the insecurity of Haifa Port have increased the risk of realizing the project, but opportunities such as instability in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, widespread international support, long-term economic potential, and the expansion of the network to Oman, Egypt, and even Gaza within the framework of the reconstruction plan provide the possibility of realizing a modified and gradual version. In this regard, this research has been conducted using a qualitative method and a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on documentary sources and international reports, and within the framework of the "multi-perspective world" theory, which considers corridors as a tool for the transition from geopolitics to geoeconomics. The research findings show that IMEC has a high capacity to realize the transition to geoeconomics and regional and transregional interdependence in the new order created by focusing on alternative routes as a network of multi-route connections.
